The African American Council of San Diego Repertory Theatre and San Diego Urban Warriors are making history. They are extending the traditional 28 days of Black history and heritage awareness an additional 14 days. Kuumba Fest San Diego’s premier annual African American month celebration will run March 12 through March 14. Three days of positive cultural images, challenges and spiritual rejuvenation.
Purpose of Kuumba Fest
The purpose of Kuumba Fest is to bring together the community and loved ones to celebrate the accomplishments of our community, African American history, heritage and culture. To honor, celebrate, learn and teach the importance of looking back so you will know where we have been and be motivated to work together as we go forward. The partnership gives urban youth a voice and professional link to the theatre community in San Diego. Kuumba Fest is behavior modification tool for youth and family empowerment thru the arts and culture. U.A.K for teachers, educators, artist, counselors, health educators, employers, volunteers etc. The U.P.A.K.A center is the home base for united performing and creative arts and educators to use their creativity to make the world a better place.
